Delivering food on your moped or scooter for Uber Eats, Deliveroo or Just Eat? A standard bike policy won't cover it: you need fast food delivery insurance with hire and reward use. We arrange that too.
The legal bit, in plain English
Every rider on UK public roads needs valid insurance: commuter, weekend cruiser or adventure tourer, no exceptions. Riding uninsured is a criminal offence that can mean a fine, penalty points and your bike being seized by the police.
There are three levels of cover. Third-party only is the legal minimum: it pays for injury to others and damage to their property, nothing for your bike. Third-party fire and theft adds protection if your bike is stolen or fire-damaged. Comprehensive covers all of that plus accidental damage, vandalism and damage to your own machine. We compare all three across our panel, because the obvious choice isn't always the cheapest.
Non-standard bikes are our normal
Mainstream insurers like bikes that fit neatly in a database. Ours don't have to. We arrange cover for highly modified bikes, custom builds, non-ABI listed machines, Chinese imports, chassis-number registrations, trikes and quads: the exact bikes that comparison sites and high-street providers routinely decline. One rule matters above all: declare every modification. Undeclared mods are a classic reason for refused claims.
Own more than one bike? A multi-bike policy covers two or more motorcycles under a single policy, which is often cheaper than insuring each separately: ideal for a commuter bike plus a weekend machine, or a growing classic collection. In some cases your no claims bonus can be mirrored across the bikes too.
What moves the price
Insurers weigh your age and riding experience, the type and engine size of your bike, where you live and where the bike sleeps, your claims and convictions history, annual mileage, and whether you ride for pleasure, commuting or business. You can't change your age, but plenty of the rest is in your hands:
- Increase your voluntary excess (only to a level you could actually pay)
- Fit approved security such as disc locks and alarms, and keep the bike in a locked garage
- Keep your declared annual mileage realistic rather than generous
- Take an advanced riding course
- Join a motorcycle owners club: some insurers offer up to 15% discount for membership
- Worth weighing as extras: helmet and gear cover, breakdown assistance, legal expenses and European travel

See all FAQsWhat types of motorbike insurance are available?
Three main levels. Third-party only covers injury to others and damage to their property, the legal minimum. Third-party fire and theft adds cover if your bike is stolen or damaged by fire. Comprehensive covers all of that plus accidental damage, vandalism and damage to your own bike. We compare all three from specialist insurers to find the right deal.
Do you cover modified motorbikes?
Yes, it's a speciality. Highly modified bikes, custom builds, non-ABI listed machines, Chinese imports and chassis-number registrations are all placed through specialist insurers. Every modification must be declared: undeclared mods can invalidate your policy. Call 01323 416706 and tell us what you've done to the bike.
Can I insure multiple bikes on one policy?
Yes. Multi-bike insurance covers two or more motorcycles under a single policy, often cheaper than separate policies for each. It suits a commuter bike plus a weekend machine, or a classic collection. In some cases we can mirror your no claims bonus across the bikes as well.
Does motorbike insurance cover riding in Europe?
Many comprehensive policies include European cover for 30 to 90 days, depending on the insurer. Planning longer trips or travel outside EU countries? Call 01323 416706 and we'll arrange extended European cover or a standalone travel policy for the bike.
How can I reduce my premium?
Increase your voluntary excess, fit approved security such as disc locks and alarms, keep the bike in a locked garage, limit your annual mileage, and take an advanced riding course. Joining a motorcycle owners club helps too: some insurers offer up to 15% discount for membership.
Can I use my bike for food delivery work?
Not on a standard policy. Paid delivery for Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Just Eat and similar counts as hire and reward, which ordinary motorbike insurance excludes. You need fast food delivery insurance instead; we arrange that as a separate policy, so tell us how you use the bike and we'll quote the right one.
